2009 ABCB CADETSHIP PROGRAM

What is the ABCB Cadetship?

The ABCB Cadetship is a 12 month government placement that offers you the opportunity to further develop your working knowledge and skills relating to the building and construction industry. If you are studying or working in the following fields, then the Cadetship may be for you.

  • Building / Built Environment;
  • Building Certification / Surveying;
  • Architecture and Design; and
  • Construction Management.

The ABCB Office is based in Canberra and the Cadetship generally commences in January. Ideally placements are for 12 months however, other time-periods may be negotiable, depending on personal requirements. Relocation assistance will be available to the successful applicants if moving to Canberra from interstate.

What type of work will I be doing?

The Cadetship involves a structured work program, with two 6-month rotations in technical areas of the office. This experience is designed to give thorough exposure to key facets of the ABCB including:

  • Working with a professional team to develop and maintain the BCA;
  • Liaising with government and industry; and
  • Undertaking research to identify the benefits and costs of national approaches to government directives.

Although structured, the program is flexible in accommodating your interests and allowing increased involvement in projects of particular interest to you.
