Japan/Australia Regulatory Cooperation

The working relationship between the ABCB and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan (MLIT) has matured into a collaborative effort on various regulatory reform initiatives, which has enabled both the ABCB and the MLIT to gain a better understanding of each other’s regulatory systems.

The relationship also provides the ABCB with a greater opportunity to provide Australian industry with information about market access issues in Japan from the viewpoint of building regulatory environment.

For instance, the ABCB has released a document to provide general information on the requirements of Japanese building regulations that are generally applicable when exporting building products to Japan. It will assist the readers in response to their questions such as; ‘What kind of approval will be required to export building product to Japan?’ and ‘How does an applicant apply for it?’

Through such activities, the ABCB is able to provide a platform for Australian industry to maintain and increase its international competitiveness.

It also enables the ABCB to access relevant overseas research and development and reinforce ABCB's involvement and standing in the international regulatory community.
