ABCB Annual Business Plan 2007–08

Publication Summary:

The Annual Business Plan places a strong emphasis on the ABCB’s core function – maintaining and updating the BCA by exercising a gatekeeper role in response to calls for regulation. A relevant, contemporary building code, achieved through rigorous assessment of emerging issues and ongoing review of existing provisions, is critical for an efficient and effective building regulatory system.

The strengthened Inter-government Agreement (IGA) executed on 26 April 2006 in response to a Productivity Commission review demands increased transparency and greater accountability of ABCB processes. The principles of the IGA, including increased impact assessment, reduced reliance on regulation, and the reduction of variations, have again been incorporated into the 2007-08 Business Plan.

The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) at its 13 April 2007 meeting confirmed the commitments made under COAG’s National Reform Agenda and endorsed the ABCB’s role in a National Climate Change Adaptation Framework. These issues are also addressed in the Business Plan.
